Doubleday Field, located just off Main Street in Cooperstown is said to be the birthplace of baseball. Back in 1839, Abner Doubleday created the rules and played the very first game of baseball on what was then a cow pasture. In 1920 that cow pasture was made into a baseball stadium. The stadium is small by current standards seating only 9,791. The field is now were the Cooperstown Varsity High School Baseball team plays it's home games, and were high school, college and men's leagues from around the U.S. come to play.
