This Early Baseball Bat – Doubleday Replica for Play design is based on Civil War profiles researched and measured at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.  This particular bat has an Abner Doubleday themed custom engraving on the barrel.   The vintage dates of this bat are circa 1850 – 1880.  The golden oak wax finish completes the vintage look and feel of this bat!   Where else would you get an Abner Doubleday Early Baseball Bat?  Abner Doubleday used to play ball with his friends in the field behind the Finney house here in Cooperstown, which happens to now be the location of Doubleday Field on which many of the best baseball players have played.

There are several forms of the early game of baseball from Rounders to Town Ball, to Knickerbocker Ball and different rules among each of these games based on year and the region or state where the game was played.  You may notice that Base Ball was two words in the history of the game.  The team names of the Early Base Ball are unique.  Cooperstown’s own Town Ball team name is the Leatherstocking Base Ball Club and has been in existence for well over 50 years.  At one time Cooperstown visitors could see a Town Ball exhibition game every Sunday at the Farmer’s Museum.  It was very typical for Base Ball games to occur on Sunday afternoons as the community gathered after church.   Fines were incurred for inappropriate behavior even back then.

The Early Baseball Bat – Doubleday Replica for Play is usable for re-enactment play or as a unique conversation piece.  Our replica bats are hand turned and will vary slightly.
